This guide will walk you through the process step-by-step, share best practices for a seamless transfer, and help troubleshoot any issues along the way. By the end, you’ll confidently have Dragon up and running on your new computer!

Why Transferring Your Dragon License Matters

Dragon Naturally Speaking is a robust tool that transforms your speech into text with unparalleled accuracy. For power users, it becomes an integral part of personal and professional workflows. That’s why properly transferring your license is key—so you don’t lose access to one of your most valuable tools or the customized profiles you’ve built over time.

Transferring your license allows you to continue using Dragon efficiently on a new system, ensuring your productivity doesn’t skip a beat.

Step-by-Step Guide to Transferring Your Dragon License

Follow these simple steps to transfer Dragon Naturally Speaking from your old computer to your new one.

1. Prepare to Deactivate the License from Your Old Computer

Before your license can be used on a new system, you’ll need to deactivate it on your current computer. Here’s how:

  • Step 1: Open Dragon Naturally Speaking on your old computer.
  • Step 2: Navigate to the "Help" menu at the top and click on "Deactivate."
  • Step 3: Follow the prompts to complete the deactivation process. This releases the license, making it available for activation on your new computer.

Quick Tip: Don’t uninstall Dragon before deactivating the license. Otherwise, you might lose access to it.

2. Install Dragon on Your New Computer

Once your license is deactivated, the next step is to install Dragon on your new computer.

  • Step 1: Download the Dragon software setup file from the Nuance website (or use the installation CD if applicable).
  • Step 2: Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  • Step 3: Log in using your Nuance account if prompted.

3. Activate the License on Your New Computer

Now that Dragon is installed, it’s time to activate your license.

  • Step 1: Open Dragon on your new computer.
  • Step 2: When prompted, enter your license key.
  • Step 3: Follow any additional activation prompts, and you’re good to go!

Pro Tip: Keep your license key handy—it’s essential for reactivation. If you’ve misplaced it, check your emails for the original purchase receipt or contact Nuance support.

Tips for a Seamless Transfer

To make the process smooth and headache-free, keep these tips in mind:

1. Ensure Your New Computer Meets System Requirements

Dragon software has specific hardware and software requirements. Double-check that your new system meets them to avoid performance issues. For example, ensure you have enough RAM, disk space, and a supported operating system version. You can find the requirements on the Nuance website.

2. Back Up Your User Profiles

Your user profile stores valuable customizations, voice training data, and custom vocabulary. To avoid losing this, back up your profile before transferring:

  • Open Dragon, go to the "Profile" menu, and select "Manage User Profiles."
  • Export your profile to a secure location, like an external drive or cloud-based service.
  • Once Dragon is set up on the new computer, import the profile to instantly recover your settings.

3. Check for Software Updates

Before transferring, make sure you’re using the latest version of Dragon. Updates often fix bugs and improve compatibility with modern operating systems.

Common Issues and How to Troubleshoot Them

Even with careful preparation, hiccups can occur. Here’s how to tackle the most common issues:

1. License Key Doesn’t Work

If your license key isn’t accepted during activation:

  • Ensure you’ve entered the key correctly (double-check for typos).
  • Verify that you’ve deactivated the license on the old computer.
  • If the issue persists, contact Nuance support—they can help resolve the problem quickly.

2. User Profile Isn’t Loading

If importing your user profile to the new computer results in errors:

  • Ensure you’ve used the "Export" and "Import" options within Dragon (directly copying files might not work).
  • Double-check the compatibility of your user profile with the version of Dragon you’ve installed on the new device.

3. Performance Issues After Transfer

If Dragon is running slow or inaccurately:

  • Check that your new system meets the software’s requirements.
  • Reconfigure your microphone settings to ensure accuracy.
  • Recalibrate voice recognition by running the audio setup wizard under “Tools.”

Why Properly Transferring Your Dragon License Makes All the Difference

Successfully transferring your Dragon Naturally Speaking license ensures you can pick up where you left off—seamlessly dictating, editing, and controlling your computer with voice commands.

How to Transcribe Audio Files or Recordings With Dragon Naturally Speaking Software?

For professionals or students, whose life constantly revolves around working round the clock, and expressing their thoughts into meaningful expressions? Our Nuance Dragon Software is a boon for you. The transcribes option is something truly magical for Nuance users.

All you have to do is sit in a comfortable position and speak the sentences, and the words are displayed on the screen.

So basically, how does Dragon transcribe your audio or recordings?

Dragon Naturally Speaking Software converts the audio from sound files (files with extension .wav or WMA, MP3, DSS or DS2 format). Depending upon the size and number of the audio files, it may take time accordingly. To publish recordings from a portable recorder, you need to set up the software with a special additional source user profile specially trained to process the voice recorded on that recorder.

You do not need to select a special user to publish files in NaturallySpeaking Sound Recorder. Take the following steps to transcribe your audio files-

1.     From the NaturallySpeaking menu, select [Profile] → [Open User Profile] and select the special "User Profile" to open the user profile created specifically for recorder input. Set it for recorded voice and click the Open button.

2.     When using the portable recorder analog (Line-In) connection, the NaturallySpeaking recorder expects a certain volume. If you are copying text, make sure the sound is set to the same level used for training, or run the audio setup wizard again at this point.

3.     To launch the audio setup wizard, choose Audio → Read Text to improve precision and adjust volume only.

4.     Now select→ Transcription of Recordings. A transcribe screen will pop up on the window, select default setting.

5.     Now you have to select the recording screen too open the recorded audio files. Next, you will be directed to select a location where Dragon naturally Speaking Software can look for the audio file you are trying to record.

When and How to Use Control Spaces & Tabs in Dragon NaturallySpeaking?

While you use Dragon NaturallySpeaking software for speech recognition and voice dictation, it does a really good job by providing auto spacing between the words, so you don’t have to look after the formatting of the text reports, presentations and files you created through voice dictation of Dragon software.

It will deal with spaces around punctation the way you would want it to. However, if you manually wish to use spaces or Tab character in your text, there’s a solution for the same as well.

While the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software puts spaces between the words automatically, it will also look at the punctuation to figure out the rest of the spacing.

If in case, you don’t want to give spaces between some specific words, you can speak the command “No-Space On <speak the words>” and then say, “No-Space Off.”

The Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software puts the different amounts of spacing after other punctuation marks.
For example, the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software will put only one space after a comma, unless that comma is a part of a number, such as 10,000 (ten thousand or ten zero zero zero zero), it will not put space after comma, if it is used within a number.

You can find these choices by going to the Tools option in Nuance Dragon and then choosing the Auto-Formatting Options.

How to Add Space & Tabs During Dragon Dictation?

If you want to add a space between the words, say “Spacebar” or “Tab Key”, or you can also say the same thing as “Press Spacebar” or “Press Tab.”

In such a way, you can ask the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software to press any key on the keyboard by saying the word “Press (name of key)”.

When to Use “Press Spacebar” or “Press Tab” Commands in Dragon Dictation?

If you’re a writer who writes about computers, printers or even the keyboards, you might require to use the space or tab words within your writing and you can ask Dragon to write the word instead of taking them as instructions, then you can try to train the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software to type out the word spacebar or tab when you speak it, instead of inserting a space character.

For being more specific in such ways, you can use “Press Spacebar” or “Press Tab” commands for the times when you actually require their features.

To know about the Dragon commands in detail, talk with our experts and train your Dragon efficiently. Call on Nuance Dragon Support Service toll-free number +1-702-430-6099

How to Use the Set & Format Commands in Dragon NaturallySpeaking?

Are you using Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software and wondering whether you can use your own font family to create reports, presentations or text files?

So, you can start withselecting a text which you want to make changes to and then change the current font in Nuance Dragon to‘Times New Roman’.

If you did not select any text, the new text which you will dictating after the selection, would be inserted into the Times New Roman Font.

So, this was the basic scenario!

But what if you want to use a font that the NuanceDragon NaturallySpeaking Software doesn’t recognize?

Then, you can choose the font family from the main menu through your voice command or through the mouse also.

Whenever you will try to change the font family, size, style and anything with one command, the Format and Set commands demonstrate will show up their capabilities.

If you use the command ‘Format That Courier 14 Italic’ or ‘Set Font Courier 14 Italic’, these will be the equivalent commands that would help you to change the Font family to Courier while keeping the Font Size as 14 and style as Italic.

In the below-given tabular presentation, we have also shown how you can utilize format or set command for changing the font families.

The words given with angle brackets and italics are just placeholders. You can use the styles, font-families or size wherever required, instead of them.
