When and How to Use Control Spaces & Tabs in Dragon NaturallySpeaking?

While you use Dragon NaturallySpeaking software for speech recognition and voice dictation, it does a really good job by providing auto spacing between the words, so you don’t have to look after the formatting of the text reports, presentations and files you created through voice dictation of Dragon software.

It will deal with spaces around punctation the way you would want it to. However, if you manually wish to use spaces or Tab character in your text, there’s a solution for the same as well.

While the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software puts spaces between the words automatically, it will also look at the punctuation to figure out the rest of the spacing.

If in case, you don’t want to give spaces between some specific words, you can speak the command “No-Space On <speak the words>” and then say, “No-Space Off.”

The Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software puts the different amounts of spacing after other punctuation marks.
For example, the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software will put only one space after a comma, unless that comma is a part of a number, such as 10,000 (ten thousand or ten zero zero zero zero), it will not put space after comma, if it is used within a number.

You can find these choices by going to the Tools option in Nuance Dragon and then choosing the Auto-Formatting Options.

How to Add Space & Tabs During Dragon Dictation?

If you want to add a space between the words, say “Spacebar” or “Tab Key”, or you can also say the same thing as “Press Spacebar” or “Press Tab.”

In such a way, you can ask the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software to press any key on the keyboard by saying the word “Press (name of key)”.

When to Use “Press Spacebar” or “Press Tab” Commands in Dragon Dictation?

If you’re a writer who writes about computers, printers or even the keyboards, you might require to use the space or tab words within your writing and you can ask Dragon to write the word instead of taking them as instructions, then you can try to train the Dragon NaturallySpeaking Software to type out the word spacebar or tab when you speak it, instead of inserting a space character.

For being more specific in such ways, you can use “Press Spacebar” or “Press Tab” commands for the times when you actually require their features.
